Happy Halloween!!

We had so much fun on my favorite holiday. Olivia went as a witch, in a tutu. I saw star tulle at the fabric store and decided then and there on her Halloween costume. Since she wont wear hats, I made a mini one on a bow.

She had purple and black striped tights, that you can't really see.

And a broom.

We went to a couple of houses in the neighborhood to show off her costume. I knew she wouldn't understand trick or treating, but thought she'd enjoy getting something in her bucket. Instead, homegirl dropped the bucket at the door and tried to go inside and play with the dogs at each house. Maybe next year.

Candy??

Open dis?

After the few houses, we left a big bowl outside our door (which clearly was emptied), filled up our to-go cups with red wine, and went over to our neighbors house who had a fire pit in the driveway. They have a 6 month old, across the street is a little girl 3 weeks younger than Olivia, next door to us is a boy 1 month older and across the street a 2 year old and a 2 day old. Next year will be so much fun!

After putting Olivia to bed way too late, Dan and I stayed up watching Hocus Pocus and playing the drinking game. I swear I could hear Olivia saying 'Happy Halloweeeeeeen' over the monitor in her sleep.

These cheeks
On Saturday, we went to a friend's Halloween party. I was going through old high school dresses with my mom a few weeks back, and she said 'you'd only keep this one if you want to be Morticia for Halloween.' Inspired. Done. We were the Addams family. (Fun fact: I had a pet turtle named Gomez when I was little.)

I had to hot glue sleeves to my dress (using a top from Goodwill) - Gomez's bow tie was a youtube video of how to tie a real tie into a bow tie - Pugsley is wearing a women's v neck from Goodwill - and Wednesday's wig was purchased, but her dress was a giant sweater hot glued smaller, with a little boy's collar from a t-shirt glued inside. Clearly I don't sew. But I am a champ when it comes to surviving hot glue gun burns.

Olivia wore the wig ... the entire night. Worried she wouldn't recognize us, we sprayed Dan's hair and I put my wig on in front of her. When we put her wig on, she looked at us like 'okay. tonight we all wear weird hair.'

And lastly, because it wouldn't be Halloween without lots of junk, we made caramel apple nachos for the party. Melted caramels and melted chocolate - I added some sprinkles for good measure. Delicious!

  3. Wow!! Your costumes were great!! Olivia looked so cute as a sweet little witch. Great job on her costume. I actually like her headband hat better than a big witch hat. You can see more of her cute face this way. Those apple nachos look ah-mazing!! I'll have to come up with some excuse to make those for myself. Halloween 2014 sounds like a great one for your family.

    1. That is true about seeing more of her face. And those cheeks! You can totally blame the apple nachos on Olive - she wanted a fall snack. :)

    1. Hot glue is the best! And the nachos were found somewhere on pinterest - with marshmallows, etc. - I just went simple.
